At the far northern tip of Australia lies one of the last great wild places on earth. Covering an area roughly two-thirds the size of Victoria, Cape York supports a wealth of rare and extraordinary wildlife.

On the Cape a mosaic of rainforests, woodlands, wild rivers, heathlands, forests and wetlands remain intact. Its coastal and marine environments remain vibrant, healthy and unpolluted. The Cape has been home to Aboriginal peoples for millennia, back to a time when land bridges connected Australia and New Guinea. Protected in the past by its remoteness, today there is an alarming increase in competing interests for Cape York's extensive land and rich resources, as industry and government search for new regions to develop.

Over the past decade, The Wilderness Society has successfully led a series of campaigns to protect large areas of Cape York from unsustainable development. However, much remains to be done to secure the future for the land and people of this remarkable place.

The Wilderness Society's WildCountry program offers a unique opportunity to protect the unparalleled World Heritage values of Cape York Peninsula.
